Players that are moving up to the U23s
Callum Whelan, a very important player last season who kept the balance in midfield and allowed Buffonge and Gomes to do what they’re good at
DJ Buffonge, Angel Gomes’ partner in crime and a very creative player in midfield who will help the U23s with his creativity which they really need
Ethan Hamilton, the big Scotsman is also moving up, very powerful, great work ethic and also good technically.
Callum Gribbin, a player I really love, really picked it up this season after being criticized for his work ethic the season before. Now working hard and has everything to become a very good player.
Tyrell Warren, no nonsense, very motivated, quick and an all-round very good defender which will be needed with Regan Poole going out on loan.
Indy Boonen, the small technician will be providing pace and creativity on the wings for the 23s.
Zach Dearnley, the striker will be one that is needed by the U23s as we didn’t have any this season.
Josh Bohui, came over from Brentford last season and can play on the wing as well as striker, powerful, quick and can create a chance.
Other players that might move up to the 23s but are still eligible are:
Lee O’Connor, the U23s will only have 3 CBS with Poole going out on loan and Warren will fill one of those spots. O’Connor impressed last season and could do a great job as the U23s right-back
Angel Gomes, insanely talented, needs to be motivated and not batter teams even more in the U18s league.
Tahith Chong, came over from Feyenoord and looked very good in his first season in Red, is injured and will be at the start of the season but once he’s recovered, he could do a very good job for the 23s.
Signings and new scholars
Exciting players are marked
GK Jacob Carney, small but the club like his technical ability, if he grows he could become a very interesting prospect
GK James Thompson, U16s main goalkeeper last season and played numerous times with the 17s last season, will be right behind Fojticek to become the starter in the 18s.
LB Brandon Williams, quick and great defensively, will likely start as the 18s lack a good LB though he’s naturally more of a RB
RB Ethan Laird, very quick, solid defensively and great attacking wise, will compete with Tanner to become the starting RB but could also do a job on the wings if needed.
CB Dishon Bernard, was released by Chelsea and was on trial for about three months and is now signed, will likely be one of the starting CBs in this team.
CM James Garner, saw him for one game at the Marveld two years ago and really impressed me, great on the ball, leader and good defensively as well, will rotate between CB and CM. Was also the U16s captain last season who won the Premier League tournament.
CM Aliou Traoré, signed from Sarcelles in France after he left PSG where he was the U15 captain, players are very impressed by him, very strong, good on the ball and solid defensively as well. Plays for France U16s as the only non-Ligue 1 player and rejected City and Juventus to join us.
CM Arnau Puigmal, signed from Espanyol and rejected Barcelona in doing so. Have not seen a lot of him but heard that he’s highly regarded in Spain and will be a very interesting player to see in the 18s next season.
CM Ethan Galbraith, was signed last season from Linfield in Ireland but wasn’t allowed to play yet because of his age. Ireland international, very creative and loves a Cruyff turn.
CM/RW Dylan Levitt, Wales U17 international is creative and a great passer, mostly plays as CM/AM but could also play on the wing and will likely because of our CM options.
CM/LW Dion McGhee, known for his rainbow flick and goal, mostly plays as AM too but will play more on the wing for the same reason as Levitt, creative and a good passer.
RW here we go D’Mani Bughail-Mellor, versatile as he can play in midfield and wing back as well, very useful player to have around and will score some goals too.
LW Largie Ramazani, left Anderlecht for Charlton a couple of years ago and played up his age for Anderlecht, small and quick and quite unknown though the players are impressed by his qualities, a very interesting signing and a seemingly great option in attack.
LW Millen Baars, released by Ajax last season and did not get his clearance until this summer even though he’s been at the club since the winter. Used to be captain for Ajax U16 and would’ve been for the 17s too, has only played friendlies yet and will be interesting to see how this kid does in the 18s next season.
2nd year scholars to look out for
Aidan Barlow, overshadowed by Gomes and Buffonge but the Salford kid impresses me constantly, very creative and has an edge to him. Look out for this kid because he’s got something about him.
Luca Ercolani, the CB has been doomed by injuries but was very highly regarded when he came over from Italy, this will have to be his season and he will look to impress, if he settles in, Ercolani could become a force in defense.

I am not entirely sure where Ramazani plays but I think Baars and him are the likely starters on the wing. Chong will probably play a couple games there once he’s back but I don’t think he will play many. I am not entirely sure if we will actually sign a new striker and CB but we lack options there so I would say it’s likely that we will with Badiashile being linked for the CB spot from Monaco.
Harry Spratt and Jake Barrett have been left out as I think it is likely that those two players will leave the club.
Competitions next season
The year starts off for the U18s with the Otten Cup which I will be fully covering on my Twitter (@GroteBergMan98), the team was beaten by Anderlecht in the final last season and will look for revenge. The teams for this season look very exciting with Anderlecht, Inter, BMG, Estudiantes, Cruzeiro, PSG and PSV as hosts.
Premier League, the league has unfortunately been reduced to only 22 games as only the winners from north and south will play each other in a final and we will likely see many U17s games as a result of this. City always looks good in the league but I think we have a chance to beat them this season if we get off to a good start.
FA Youth Cup, we will look to do well in this as it is a very good cup tournament that we have done very well in in the past and we will look to revenge ourselves after losing to Southampton last season.
UEFA Youth League, thank god for this competition, the games are exciting, the teams are great and the players will get experience playing against high-level teams around the world, the team looks great and we will look to impress in this competition.
More signings?
As I said, we might sign a new CB and Striker as we lack in those positions. The only player we have been linked with is a CB from Monaco called Badiashile. For the striker position I have not heard any rumours of players we are looking to sign.
